Visitor guidelines to change Friday, April 9
As a result of increasing numbers of patients admitted with COVID-19 and the increase in community positivity rate, Spectrum Health Lakeland will revise our visitor policy effective Friday, April 9 to allow for one adult visitor for the duration of a patient’s stay on all hospital inpatient units. Two visitors are allowed for labor and delivery/OB, pediatric patients, and end of life care. No visitors are currently allowed on COVID-19 units. Learn more about the updated visitor policy here.
Traveling during a pandemic
While a getaway sounds delightful, and many of us could certainly use a break from our usual routine, there is still significant risk associated with travel. Our medical experts urge caution for future travel plans, and offer tips to consider before embarking on a vacation.
“We have to remember that we are still in a pandemic,” said Rosemary Olivero, MD, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Olivero urges anyone planning to hit the road or jump on a plane to carefully consider the risks associated with travel and to consult recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please continue to encourage family, friends and other community members to remain vigilant in taking the precautions to prevent continued spread of COVID-19. Frequent handwashing, wearing masks, and social distancing help protect you and those you love.
Fighting against rising COVID-19 numbers
The COVID-19 vaccine is making a big impact on our community and the lives of our friends and neighbors. As of this week, in Berrien County, 45,957 residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine which represents 37% of the total population age 16 and older.
All individuals 16 years and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination in the State of Michigan. However, because of the current vaccine supply available at Spectrum Health Lakeland we are only scheduling for those 18 years and older at this time. Schedule your vaccination appointment at spectrumhealthlakeland.org/vaccine. Check back often as new appointments continue to be added as they become available.

Connecting with one another requires building trust and breaking down barriers. Help us keep our communities healthy by sharing discussions related to vaccination with your colleagues, friends, and family. This topic has already been touched on with a wide range of groups, including Asian Americans, black and brown communities, those in rural and agricultural areas, the LatinX population (conversations in Spanish), seniors, and those with disabilities.
Join the live virtual discussion on Fridays at 9 a.m. on the Spectrum Health Lakeland Facebook page, or catch up on on previous conversations.
