Buchanan Farmers’ Market
Submitted by Ashley Hanson
Saturdays come alive at the Buchanan Common from May till October. Vendors ascend the grass for the weekly event every Saturday morning. Visitors are welcomed with all kinds of sights, sounds, smells and tastes to tantalize all their senses.
Local farmers bring their produce, flowers, meat and eggs weekly. Colorful and seasonal bounties fill their booths. Regular farms on the list include, but not limited to, Hebron Farms, Knott Hill Road Farms, Well-Watered Farms and Cultivating Kindness, Blooms and Bouquets. All farms are small, regional and family owned. Carrying staple garden goods, as well as a variety of specialty produce…you never know what will be featured.
A large variety of crafts are on display every week from artists, locally renowned for their hand-crafted works of art. Crafts range from award-winning jams and jellies by Sticky Spoons to crocheted one-of-a-kind masterpieces…from handmade soaps to upcycled jewelry…and everything in between. All our crafters are local Michiana residents, often using and creating treasures specific to our area. There are dealers who also attend the market, including Watkins, ColorStreet Nails, Norwex and Scentsy, to name a few regulars.
Getting up early and coffee go hand and hand…luckily, the best coffee in Michiana, Rapha Roast Company, will be back this year. Not only offering their signature “air roasted” coffees and wildly popular Cold Brews, but also providing a free cup of coffee for anyone that comes to visit. Wood, Stock and Grill will be returning for another season of smoked favorites and new menu items, to take home or to be enjoyed on site picnic style. This season we are excited to announce new food options with the introduction of food trucks (only food carts have been allowed in years past). Also, The Buchanan Chronicle will have a booth today (May 1st) and a few more times throughout the season.
Check out the Farmers’ Market webpage, www.BuchananFarmersMarket.com or like us on Facebook, for a full weekly list of rotating food trucks and carts, as well as, farmers and crafters. You don’t want to miss all the weekly highlights. Including kids’ events, such as pop-up play times and the annual Kid’s Entrepreneurial Weekend.
Come join us every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm (some food trucks or carts may be available longer some weeks). The market is open rain or shine, May 1st through Mid October. A warm, home-town experience at one of the county’s top farmer’s markets. The perfect way to jump start the weekend. Every week there will be new surprises…so, don’t miss the fun, food and fellowship.
