Terry Martin Flint (1946 – 2021) was and is an important part of our Buchanan Scarecrow Charities family. She served as President of the organization for several years and always pushed us to achieve more so that we could help our community. Terry also served on the BSC Scholarship Committee until this year. She will be greatly missed by her Scarecrow sisters and all of the partners who volunteer with us.

Terry created beautiful scarecrows over the years and added her own sense of beauty and humor to each one. She not only gave of her time and talent, she was also generous with her money. Each year Terry donated to our scholarship fund which enabled us to increase the number of scholarships we awarded. We have decided to name a scholarship in her honor beginning this year. This will be known as the Terry Martin Flint Memorial Scholarship and will be awarded to a Buchanan High School graduate who meets the criteria set forth on our application. Applications are available each spring in the High School Guidance Office. This year’s recipient has been chosen and will be announced by Buchanan High School at the Convocation Ceremony.

Terry had a favorite saying at Scarecrows —- if someone was struggling with the final detail of a scarecrow, she always said, “It’s just a Scarecrow”. Terry also liked Notre Dame sports —- in honor of this, we have created our own version of the Play Like a Champion sign from the ND Football Locker room.

When you enter our Factory, above the light switch, please tap the yellow sign that reads, “It’s just a Scarecrow” and remember the joy and passion Terry brought to BSC. Terry loved life, music, sports, art, friends and most of all her family and we are all better, stronger and more giving for having her in our circle. Rest in Paradise Terry.
