IV. Public Hearing on Proposed 2021-2022 Budget

  • Interim Director of Business, Mr. Tom Tebeau, presented the proposed 2021-2022 budget to the board.

  • Executive Team Updates – Superintendent Robinson and the Executive Team provided their updates respectively.

VIII. Superintendent/Department Reports

  • Updates for BHS, BMS, Moccasin, Ottawa, Athletics/BVA/CTE, Special Education, Operations, Food Service, Information Technology, and Assistant Superintendent were provided respectively.

IX. Information/Reports & New Business

  • Parent Advisory Committee – Mrs. Robinson reported to the board of their latest meeting. They discussed having a possible block party. The committee is planning a full meeting on August 24th.
  • Finance Committee – Mr. Carlson briefed the board. The finance committee had met a few times regarding contract changes for the bargaining agreements and the upcoming budget.
  • Public Relations Committee – Mrs. Laesch informed the board of their recent meeting. Ideas from the Patent Advisory Committee were shared with them and they covered topics of the strategic plan, instant alerts, videos, yearend communication, and social media.
  • Human Resource Committee – Mrs. Berry shared they had spoken of adding an Administrative Assistant position, summer school position, 2 new coaching positions, a technology technician and 5th grade teacher position. They were also updated on the progression of negotiations.

X. Community Dialogue / Citizen’s Concerns

  • Mark Cahill was concerned with the excessive heat at graduation and no water, concessions, or trash cans available. He proposed if there are more than 100 people at an even to have drinking water and cups available. He was also concerned with the upcoming early release days on Wednesdays.

XXIII. Adoption of the 2021-2022 Activity Fund Budget Appropriation Resolution

Writer, the Buchanan Board of Education resolves that this resolution shall be the General Appropriations of Buchanan Community Schools for the 2021-2022 fiscal year; a resolution to make appropriations; to provide for the expenditure of the appropriations; and to provide for the disposition of all revenue received by the Buchanan Community Schools Activity Fund.

XXIV. Questions & Comments From Board Members

  • Mr. Carlson congratulated the baseball and softball teams.
  • Mrs. Writer congratulated the 2020 & 2021 Hall of Fame Inductees. She also recognized the BCS staff members that received awards by the Buchanan Chamber of Commerce, Wendy Murphy and Brian Pruett. Mrs. Writer also commented of two Buchanan alumni who will be completing in the Olympics.
  • Mrs. Berry expressed appreciation to Mrs. Robinson for the negotiation process. She commented to the Hall of Fame ceremony and Mr. Frey and coaches running the athletic clinics. She also spoke of the formal statement coming of the Superintendent evaluation.
  • Mr. Lee thanked Mr. Tebeau for all his efforts and welcomed Carrie Brunsting and Brian Brown.
