When you go down W. Fourth Street in Buchanan past Buchanan Middle School, you will see a colorful veggie farmstand on the south side of the road just before you get to Bakertown Road.

Welcome to C & C veggies farmstand! Coy and Cora Weinberg who attend the high school and middle school started this stand this summer. Their sign says: “Take what you want, leave what you can.” When asked why they wanted to do this, Cora replied, “We have extras and don’t want to waste it, pay for next year’s garden and enjoy Bubble Tea at the fair.” Coy said, “For the money.” This year they saved up for a new spark plug for their golf cart to use when they bring out the veggies to the stand.

I was able to take a tour with them and Mom, Lisa Weinberg, on their 1984 golf cart that is 37 years young and still chuggin’ along. They showed me all of their bountiful gardens and chickens. The gardens go all the way south to Front Street!

At C & C veggies, you will find: a wide variety of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, corn, onions, potatoes, beets and eggs. They have plastic bags for your purchase as they ask you to leave the containers, and a payment box on the side of the stand. “The “Honest System” is used here and the kids are learning how to deal with money and running a veggie stand. It’s a lot of hard work for them to earn money,” says Lisa Weinberg.

They have also attached to their stand a Greek Style Artichoke Salad recipe which their Mom, Lisa Weinberg told me it is a Weight Watchers recipe. And if you want some canned tomatoes, their clipboard says to “Leave a note in the cash box with your name, phone number and approx. pounds needed,” as well as another recipe for Baked Feta Pasta from Tiktok. The family has been canning for their 97 year old Great Grandma. Stewed tomatoes, salsa, and beets are some of what they have canned. And they freeze corn and green beans.

What’s coming up soon for the farmstand: indian corn, pumpkins, potatoes, and onions. One final word from Coy and Cora: “Come to our veggie stand and get veggies!”
