A Note from the Editor – Issue 12

by Rebecka Hoyt, Editor

This past week, I have been meeting a lot of new people. I can truly say that I am enjoying it. Now I kinda know how my Grandma Stratton felt as she was a people person and not afraid to go up to people and say something to them, and it was all good that she would say. So, I guess that I have a little bit of her in me, but maybe not 100% like her. When I hear someone talking in an ear-shot from me, and if it applies to a possible future article, I may politely interrupt when it’s the right time.

My recent interaction with someone new had an interesting design on their face mask that made me ask a question. Their mask had the University of Chicago logo on it. I told them about how our daughter was a patient at that hospital almost 12 years ago. Come to find out, their spouse is a professor there and they have a place by the Galien River that they are fixing up. I then mentioned we had an article suggestion on why people come over this way from Chicago as we have heard that quite a few or I should say many make their way over here for various reasons. In this issue, there is some Buchanan history about a family having a vacation here with their 80 year old Dad as he told stories about Clear Lake.

Our Sports writers, Nik Sanchez and Garrick Stubblefield will be providing some write-ups on some of the athletes of Buchanan High School in future articles. Even though we have two great guys covering sports, we can’t cover every sport and/or both middle and high school. So, if any coaches and/or parents that attend these sporting events – even away games, we would really appreciate it for you to submit photos of any Buchanan sports. Please email them to us with a small description at: buchananchronicle@att.net If you know of anyone that would like to help us cover some sports and/or community events send us an email as well.

Lastly, I have some great news if you haven’t heard yet: our Facebook page has reached over 1,000 likes! We want to thank everyone for sharing, tagging and liking our page. Feel free to continue to share our article links. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to our email reminders when a new issue gets published. And one last final thing: we will be at the Buchanan Farmers’ Market one more time this season, next week on Saturday, September 25 from 8am -1pm. Come visit us, say “Hi”, make an article suggestion, order some swag items, and purchase a few of the BEST chocolate chip cookies (nut-free) in town from Julie Hoyt, as all of her sales from the cookies will go to The Buchanan Chronicle for future printed issues! Julie will only be taking cash for cookie payments.

Enjoy the 12th issue!

Happy Readings,

Rebecka Hoyt
