BCS School Spotlight – BMS September 2021

New Year, New Beginnings, New Hopes & Dreams at Buchanan Middle School

by BMS Principal Shelby Beasley

The beginning of a school year often brings many new things – new crayons, new notebooks, new classrooms, new friends. However, for the students, parents, and staff at Buchanan Middle School, it also meant time to reflect on what new hopes and dreams they had for the 2021-22 school year.

At Buchanan Middle School’s back-to-school orientation, parents and students had the opportunity to write their hopes and dreams on sticky notes and hang them on the wall. A few of the notes from students included hopes and dreams of making new friends, improving grades, and in true middle school fashion, “keeping track of my retainer.” Parents hoped for “a love of learning” and “being kind”. One parent wrote, “For my son to learn a new way to make the world a better place.” Other hopes and dreams reflected some of the lasting effects of living in a global pandemic.

Dreams such as staying healthy, having a year “as normal as possible,” or “being in school and not virtual” also made the wall. In our world of increased uncertainty, one thing remains certain, the Buchanan community continues to be steadfast in remaining optimistic – one hope and dream at a time.
