Same Great Taste, New Location
by Rebecka Hoyt, Editor & Photographer
You can still get all your regular orders of smoothies, tea bombs, and aloe shots at Bucktown Nutrition; it’s just relocated to 105 Days Ave in downtown Buchanan MI, next door to Milano’s Pizza. When I asked Leland Payne, owner of Bucktown Nutrition, why the move over there, he cited parking as the main issue, “On Days Ave you have more on-street parking and the parking lot that is next to the Michigan Gateway Foundation.”
Inside the smoothie shop’s new location, you will find the original sign (from when it was Sandy’s Floral Boutique) mounted on the south wall, with some black and white framed photos of businesses previously housed in the same shop also. Past uses range from: a meat market, the Original Carbon Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour headquarters, to hair cutting by Kelly Moore. You may have seen these photos on their Bucktown Nutrition Facebook Page. Leland has also stated “If anyone has signs from the old days, I’d be happy to display them.” So, this building (like so many in our downtown) has history and loves to show it off.
Being in an older building that has been home to quite a few businesses, you can come upon some challenges. Leland said that “The most challenging thing was stripping the peg board and lattice off the wall.” He started working on it in March of this year and finished at the end of August. There is some painting left to do, but he says that’s easy to do. You will notice that the color scheme inside is the same as in their previous location on W. Front Street. However, the wood underneath the bar and his cabinets are more of a lighter oak to make it look more natural looking.
Help is needed at Bucktown Nutrition for the hours of 2:00pm – 7:00pm during the week and from 8:00am – 3:00pm on the weekends. Their business hours are currently Monday – Friday 4:30am – 5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am – 3pm. I have heard that teenagers along with my daughter and other older adults really like the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough smoothie and then the Raspberry Blastoff Tea Bomb is a favorite as well. You can head on over to their website for more information on their Herbalife products that are used in their smoothies and teas, and you can purchase those for making your own smoothies and teas at home and save some money. So head on over and get a sweet smoothie, tea or both either dine-in or take-out while walking around downtown by the McCoy Creek and enjoying the scarecrows!
Typical business hours are:
- Monday – Friday : 4:30a-5p
- Saturday – Sunday : 8a-3p
