Wednesday, November 3, 2021 was an exciting day for Buchanan Middle School. A group of five great 7th graders got the chance to cut the ribbon at a ceremony in front of their classmates for the opening of the Buchanan Jr. Herd Student Credit Union! Grace, Chloe, Maddie, Julie and Sophia will be the ones holding the positions of: tellers, managers and marketing specialists. This credit union is A Division of Honor Credit Union.

Our Student Credit Union program is a great way for students to increase their financial literacy, and gain valuable work experience. Our program allows for students to run an actual credit union location in their school, which provides a convenient banking location for both students and staff, all while students gain a wide range of experience. It also provides a convenient location for both students and staff to make deposits into their Honor Credit Union account.
A couple of dignitaries were invited and spoke a few words to the students encouraging that this is a valuable life learning experience to have: BCS Superintendent Patricia Robinson, and a representative from State Senator Kim LaSata’s office, and Karol Behrle Honor Credit Union Community Assistant Vice President. Karol told the students, “This is a way for you to start saving early for your first car, that video game you’ve been wanting, or even for a trip to Disney World after you graduate from high school, and college.”
The students were also excited for a prize drawing at the end of the school year that if they make a deposit they are entered in to win a mini iPad! Teachers who make a deposit will be entered for a gift card! Honor Credit Union has been partnering with schools for over 20 years to help students set up for a successful financial future.
