A Note from BCS Superintendent
by Patricia Robinson, Buchanan Community Schools Superintendent
Buck Families,
The first nine weeks are completed and students have had a full array of engaging activities that have allowed for everyone to be energized for the school year. As a district, we remain committed and focused on our vision: to develop responsible, resilient, creative citizens capable of succeeding in a global society, our mission: educating students for life-long success in their Civic, Academic, Physical and Social/Emotional Lives and our beliefs: to provide a safe, supportive, respectful environment, to provide opportunities for all students, to support student growth and achievement and to foster cooperative relationships among students, families, stakeholders and community members. With these areas as our guiding principles we will have what is needed to ensure all learners are successful.
Academics
Within the first few weeks of school, students in grades K-8 participated in an assessment called NWEA/MAPs. This assessment is an adaptive achievement and growth test. It creates a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student’s learning level—precisely measuring progress and growth for each individual student.
Parent teacher conferences took place during this period. Parents had opportunities to meet with their child’s teachers allowing for ongoing dialogue about the child.
