Marching Band Spotlight – Garrett Brackett
by Thomas Hoyt
This article is about Garrett Brackett who plays the trumpet with the Buchanan High School Band. I had the pleasure to interview Garrett and learned that what he finds most exciting about being with the band is the competitive performances and helping the younger students. Garrett enjoys all the facets of music performance and I see a future for him in music.
Since the 5th grade, the 2014-2015 school year, Garrett has participated with Solo and Ensemble. In all that time he has earned the Division I rating. Garrett did say that there were only 2 times when he did not earn a I, one time for district and one time for state.
Other than performing with the high school band, Garrett performs with the Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra where he plays his trumpet. I asked Garrett what his favorite musical pieces are, and he told me that he does enjoy listening to Defying Gravity from the Broadway musical Wicked. His favorite piece to perform is called With Quiet Courage by Larry Daehn.
Currently Garrett is a senior in high school and has aspirations of being a music major. He is currently looking into attending Western Michigan University.
Stay tuned for future articles on our band students.
