BCS Sports Highlight – Battle of the Fans 2022

The Herd in Battle of the Fans 2022

BOTF is something that wasn’t around when I was in high school. If it does anything, it should at least draw students together to cheer on the athletes of their school. Buchanan has The Herd, which is a student cheering section at any athletic event. The Herd may even go to a competitive marching band event to cheer on their marching band.

What I think may be unique about Buchanan is their mascot, the white-tailed deer. Specifically, the male white-tailed deer called a buck. As we know, white-tailed deer thrive in groups called a herd. Hence, the student organization for cheering each other on is called the Herd. I’ve heard testimony from students who say how the Herd is very inclusive and welcoming.

Our family attended the boys Varsity Basketball game as Buchanan played against South Haven on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022. The Bucks won 65 – 35! The Herd was great with their chants, cheers and sportsmanship/spirit! A huge conga line went around the gym at half-time as the teams came back out to play. MHSAA judges were interviewing and videotaping students of The Herd. I am sure that they spoke highly of their school and student section! Enjoy the photos of this night.

The result of the Battle of the Fans was Traverse City West. Buchanan, you did not disappoint and we are still proud of you for making it in the top three!

Go Bucks & The Herd!!
