First Anniversary Issue – Reminiscing on Our First Year

The Buchanan Chronicle’s First Year

by Jill K. McDonald

Happy 1st Birthday to The Buchanan Chronicle!! Woo hoo!!

The journey of Buchanan’s digital newspaper this past year has been amazing!

Like a newborn, it has had so many stages of growth in its first year. From ideas, to fruition as a registered business, to forming a creative team, to articles published online, it has been fun to watch it grow.

It’s truly been an inspiration and a blessing to be part of the Buchanan Chronicle Team. Editor Rebecka Hoyt, her husband Tom, daughter Julie, and Publisher Jen Garry have always been a joy to work with and very welcoming. They’ve drawn together a great team of writers through their kindness, as they make it fun to gather and collaborate on ideas for articles, as well as on ways to grow the newspaper. Thank you Team!

Highlights from the past year with the newspaper are many for sure! To begin, meetings are filled with great ideas, plus Rebecka starts them with fun ice breaker questions and wraps them up by sharing an encouraging quote. It just simply adds to the atmosphere of the meetings.

Recalling event highlights that were covered by The Chronicle, two definitely stand out. Both times the community gathered together at The Commons:

1) Olympian Hannah Roberts competing at the Olympics and the community watch party celebrating!

2) Andrews University students sharing their presentation with ideas for Buchanan’s growth.

Last, but not least, it’s been a highlight of mine to be able to share my love of nature and the outdoors through my Nature Notes column. My hope is that you, my readers, draw a greater appreciation for nature and a curiosity to further explore the great outdoors.

Thank you to you ~ our readers and sponsors ~ for enjoying and sharing our articles and posts! Thank you for believing in and supporting The Buchanan Chronicle! We greatly appreciate you all!
