Recently our Publisher discovered a local gem, a Buchanan home-based business called Raw Oats Skincare. Kelly Bailey who owns Raw Oats sat down with me and gave me the scoop.
Raw Oats was started as a way to make gifts as it would be better for others without chemicals, being eco-friendly by eliminating packaging and reuse boxes for shipping. Kelly has lived in Buchanan for the past seven years with her boyfriend and their three dogs, and works part-time at Apothica Teas in Niles where her products are also sold at. She loves the restaurant River St. Joe, and Union Coffee House and Cafe. She likes to read in the cold season, and does disc golf and kayaking when it gets warmer out.

Product reviews are there to help you make your decision on what to purchase. Raw Oats also does philanthropy. Kelly’s most recent one is a donation from certain products that would go to Fernwood Botanical Garden, Midwest Vizsla Rescue, and Relay for Life Walk in the South Bend/Mishawaka area that are important to her. Kelly will be having a Make and Take event at Fernwood Botanical Garden, use this link to learn more information on Facebook on Saturday, June 11 2022 from 1pm – 2pm and “you can make your own clay mask and botanical soak,” which is stated on the event page.
Some favorites of Raw Oats is the Michigan Lakeshore Soap Bar that has scents of cedarwood, lavender, orange, ylang ylang and a hint of grapefruit essential oils. “It is made of shea butter, sunflower and coconut oil and other nourishing ingredients,” which is stated on the website of the description of this bar. Cool Mint Soap is one that I was able to try. This one wakes you up and is gentle on my skin. I highly recommend it! Sunny and Bright is a citrusy blend which is also a popular one. Kelly said, “That others request a face bar rather than using a pump soap bottle!”
Kelly has her Raw Oats at the Farmers’ Markets in New Buffalo and Kalamazoo to expand her customer base. On the 23rd of April she will be at Potawatomi Park in South Bend for Earth Day. Follow her on social media to stay up-to-date on where she will be. Her prices range from $6 and up for deodorants, lip balms, soaps, daily routines, and holiday gift baskets. Gifts are great for teachers, bridesmaid boxes, moms and best of all they are usable gifts. Orders can be placed through the Raw Oats website or by messaging her. They can be available in one day if it’s ready to go or up to 1 week as it is just her making the products and packing them up. Pickup can also be at her home when you finalize your order at checkout.
