
Napier Avenue Bridge Closure

- LOCATION: Napier Avenue Bridge located between Langley Avenue and Miami Road
- CLOSEST CITIES: St Joseph, Benton Harbor
- START DATE: Tuesday, April 26, 2022
- ESTIMATED END DATE: TBD (until project is complete)
- PROJECT: A rehabilitation project to the Napier Avenue Bridge over the St. Joseph River began on March 28, 2022.
- 4/26/2022 PROJECT UPDATE: Sandblasting crews cleaning the bridge exposed the bridge supports. During this process to rehabilitate the Napier Avenue Bridge, additional deterioration was discovered. Supports were then evaluated and the Road Department deemed, due to safety, to close the Napier Avenue Bridge. Napier Avenue Bridge will remain closed until this rehabilitation project has been completed.
- TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Bridge is totally closed to all traffic at this time.
- A temporary fix is in the works to provide access to EMS and police during remaining construction. The limited access will be subject to resource availability, weather and the contractor. Updates will be provided to those agencies when temporary fix is in place.
- The public should seek alternative routes until project is completed or utilize the official detour route.
- DETOUR ROUTE: M-139 North to BL I-94 to M-63.
