Michigan Main Street Board in Buchanan
by Jen Garry, Publisher
NEW in town: Buchanan has formed its Board of Directors to join the Michigan Main Street (MMS) Program. As a joint venture between the City of Buchanan and the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce, this board will serve the community, businesses, and residents. This program “assists communities interested in revitalizing and preserving their traditional commercial district.”
After their first initial meetings, the group of a dozen or so local individuals making up the board have also formed several subcommittees: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, Organization, and finally Diversity and Inclusion. These subcommittees meet on their own to focus on different aspects of the board’s scope. The board as a whole meets monthly and is still solidifying the starting details before they’ll be poised to dive into their first project(s).
Buchanan joins Niles, Three Rivers, and Coldwater in the Southwest Michigan region of MI Main Street. Through this Program, the board will be able to access resources and connections that will bring to our community expertise and a united focus on Buchanan character and historic aspects in any projects moving forward, guiding and directing local vision in the built realm.
