Downtown Buchanan from Redbud Trail to the Veterans Circle at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Terre Coupe Road was the 1.4 mile route of the American Legion Post 51 Memorial Day Parade Monday May 30, 2022. Clear skies, temps in the 80’s and some wind made it a great time watching the parade by everyone young and old as well as some doggies.

Even though it was windy, the USA flags were doing their job being everywhere on the floats, being held by attendees in the parade, fixed to cars, tractors, trucks, motorcycles, wagons, the street light poles adorned by them as well as some businesses along the route and homes. Of course, you cannot forget the flags that were placed at Veterans Circle and on the rest of other Veterans gravesites in the cemetery. Even the big flag that hangs over Front Street by Main Street!

Members of the American Legion, brought in the main flags and then followed by officers. Dick Swem was Grand Marshall of the parade. The Veterans, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Buchanan High School Marching Band, area churches, One Buchanan, Boy Scouts, American Heritage Girls, Cub Scouts, candidates running for elections, Buchanan Community Schools, The Buchanan Promise, the Bookmobile, Miss Buchanan and her royal court, the Shriners Children Hospitals, Buchanan Youth Baseball/Softball, Equestrian teams, The Buchanan Chronicle with a Jurassic Park themed jeep, XPO Logistics, Buchanan City Police, Fire (city & twp), Bertrand Twp Fire were all part of the parade. Please let us know if we forgot a group/business as there were many.

Thank you to everyone who showed up to the parade and if you were in it. It was a great time enjoyed by many great people! Enjoy these photo memories!
