Unveiling New Sign for Buchanan Art Center

by Rebecka Hoyt, Editor & Photographer

Just before the noon hour on Saturday, June 11 2022 the Buchanan Art Center was given a new name along with a new sign showcasing the name of “Roti Roti Art Center of Buchanan.” The sign was redesigned with a similar feel with white lettering on a background of a teal – light green color by Alec Graveson who donated his work. Siblings: Donna Resetar, Elizabeth Roti Roti Hendrick, Mary Roti Roti Rogers and Jon Roti Roti removed the green covering that was placed over the redesigned sign.

The Roti Roti Family boosted the endowment as the mother, Shirley Roti Roti has made many contributions including her art at the art center. “In 1978, Shirley became a founding member of the Buchanan Fine Arts Council; she remained a member for the next 27 years.” (p. 29. The Roti Roti Family in Buchanan, E. Roti Roti (Pilley) Hendrick) She was the art teacher at Buchanan High School and retired in 1982. Mrs. Roti Roti (a charter member on the first board) was all hands on deck at the start of Buchanan Art Center and also “helped design the Art Center logo that was unveiled in 2008.” (p. 31. You would probably be safe to say that she has been one of the oldest citizens of Buchanan to partake in the Art Center’s activities while she was in her 90+ years young. Shirley lived a long life and passed in April of 2020. So please go and check out the new sign and maybe they have a little booklet for you to read called, The Roti Roti Family in Buchanan, by Elizabeth Roti Roti (Pilley) Hendrick, assisted by Donna Roti Roti Resetar; illustrated with family photographs and art by Shirley Louise Roti Roti. The booklet gives you family history and how they made their adventure to the United States “To live the American Dream.”
