The wonderful new building for the Buchanan Scarecrow Charities is the culmination of a long dream for Mary Fisher, co-founder of the organization. What started as a small project to raise money for The Buchanan Art Center gradually grew into a 501 (c)3 charity organization dedicated to scholarships, helping local groups, and promoting the Buchanan community.

Incorporated in 2013, the group has been forced to move many times. At the same time, the requirements for work space and storage space grew. The building, funded by a donation by the Fischer-Rahiser group, took well over two years from finding land to our move-in. During the last 8 months of construction the group was “homeless” with all the many, many boxes of materials stored in member’s’ homes, sheds, and moving “pods”.

The 2022 season was seriously delayed while waiting for final completion of the building. A process that usually starts in February was delayed until April. Thanks to the tremendous effort of the “super scarecrow ladies” the group is back on track with production and organization and ready to show off their wonderful new home.

Scarecrows will show up in downtown Buchanan area streets on August 28 and then will be taken down the day after Halloween. You will have a chance to make a scarecrow of your own to keep at your house at two of their workshops on September 22 & 24.
