Cans for Veterans Donation Drive Back Again

by Garrick Stubblefield, Writer, and Jen Garry, Publisher

Again this year we will be holding our Cans for Veterans donation drive!

Last year (2021) we managed to raise a whopping $750 which was distributed directly to our local veterans in the form of gift cards to local businesses. On Thursday, December 2, 2021, our team was invited to Buchanan’s Auxiliary American Legion Post 51 and we were able to thank them in this way for their service.

Our writer Garrick Stubblefield, a veteran himself (to whom full credit goes for the great idea), collected and returned all the cans and will be doing so this year as well. He spoke at that meeting briefly of his and our appreciation for our veterans and their service before handing out gift cards at random to veterans in attendance. They could use their gift cards all around Buchanan for everything from groceries at Harding’s to gas at stations in town to sandwiches at Gary Z’s and much more.

This year we are asking you and those you know to once again drop off a deposit return can or bottle for us to donate the proceeds to local veterans.

We will collect from August through November.

We will have locations at:

  • Buchanan District Library
  • Buchanan Area Senior Center
  • Redbud Hardware

Our goal is to raise even more money than last year for our local veterans, to help and honor them. So with your kindness please drop a can or bottle in either location, and know the proceeds will benefit our local heroes. We plan to add collection locations as we can, so keep looking for them around Buchanan.

Small tokens though they may be, we will forever be grateful for our freedoms and those who ensure and protect them.

Thank You Veterans, we are ever grateful!
