
BCS Principals 2022-2023

Buchanan Community Schools welcomes all students and families to the 2022-2023 school year. We are excited about the positive possibilities this year will bring. Our building leaders and their teams worked diligently throughout the summer to ensure the schools opened smoothly and were ready to receive students and families on the first day of school. We would like you to get to know our building principals a little bit better.
Buchanan High School Leadership:

Brian Pruett is the principal of Buchanan High School. This is his first year as the high school principal, and he is the first Buchanan alumni to serve in this position. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education degrees from Grand Valley State University. Mr. Pruett has served Buchanan Community Schools for nearly twenty years. He started in 2003 as a middle school core teacher and spent the past eight years serving as the assistant principal for Buchanan High School. He has coached various sports, has other district leadership roles, and serves on various district and county committees. Mr. Pruett shares the hustle and bustle of his life with his wife Betsy and two children, Evyn and Ezra.

- “If you would ask my family, they would question when is there a time I am not working 🙂 I enjoy being with my family, being outside doing things like mowing the lawn, and sitting on the couch watching On Patrol Live.”
- What are you most excited about this school year?
- “I am most excited about taking on a new role within the building I love, learning new things, and continuing to help make this the great place it is!”

The new assistant principal of Buchanan High School is Mark Frey. Mark is serving his first year as the assistant principal. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Hanover College in Indiana, his Secondary Teaching Certificate from Dordt College in Iowa, and his Master of Arts in Education Administration from the University of Findley in Ohio. This is Mr. Frey’s fourth year with Buchanan Community Schools. Other educational experiences for Mark include a high school mathematics teacher in Indiana and Ohio and a middle school mathematics teacher in Ohio. Mr. Frey also was an assistant football coach for Ohio Northern University and Dordt College. In addition to his role as assistant principal, Mr. Frey serves as the Career and Technical Education Director. Mark enjoys life with his wife Rachel and his children, Grace, Nora, and John.

- “I am most excited about a new challenge and getting to work with all students, not just athletes.”

Reid McBeth became the new athletic coordinator in August. This will be his first year serving in this role, and he is the first Buchanan alumni to serve in this role. Mr. McBeth received his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science and his Post Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Michigan State University. Reid McBeth has served Buchanan Community Schools for twenty-five years as an eighth-grade core and middle school technology teacher. Additionally, Mr. McBeth was an elementary teacher and migrant teacher before joining Buchanan Community Schools. Mr. McBeth will also serve as the Buchanan Virtual Director in addition to his role as athletic coordinator. Reid is thrilled to experience this role with his wife Kasey and children Clinton, a graduate of Buchanan High School, Liam, and Emmie, both Freshmen at Buchanan High School, and Keegan, a 7th grader at Buchanan Middle School.

- “ I love to go to warm places….the beach or pool in Michigan in the summer and anywhere the sun is out when it is cold!! Also, I love attending athletic events that involve MSU!”

- “I am most excited about my new role with Buchanan Schools. I have been a proud member of the Buchanan Community since I was 8 years old, and as the first homegrown Athletic Coordinator, I am extremely excited about this new opportunity! Athletics are underway, and we are also working to grow our BVA numbers!”
Buchanan Middle School Leadership:

Shelby Beasley serves the role of Buchanan Middle School principal. This is the beginning of her fourth year in this role. Mrs. Beasley earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree from Indiana University Bloomington and earned her Master of Science in Education degree from Indiana University South Bend. Mrs. Beasley has been a member of Buchanan Community Schools for four years. Before joining BCS, she was an educator in Indiana, teaching at the elementary level. And leading as a building designee and assistant principal. In addition to being the middle school principal, she is a member of other district committees. Mrs. Beasley enjoys sharing her life experiences with her husband Mike and her children, 7-year-old Gavin and 4-year-old Delaney.

Ryan Frontczak is the Dean of Students at Buchanan Middle School. This is the beginning of his fourth year serving in this role. Mr. Frontczak received his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University. Ryan has been a member of Buchanan Community Schools for four years. Other educational experiences for Ryan before joining Buchanan Community Schools included classroom teacher, teacher coach, STEM facilitator, and Dean of Students. In addition to his role, he serves as Assistant Athletic Coordinator. Mr. Frontczak balances life with his wife Emily and sons Mason, Drew, Grant, and Lincoln.

Moccasin Elementary School Leadership:

Michael Babcock was selected as the new principal of Moccasin Elementary and began working in August. Mr. Babcock earned his Bachelor in Secondary Education from Wabash College in Indiana and earned his Master in Education from Indiana University South Bend. This will be Mr. Babcock’s first school year with Buchanan Community Schools. Michael’s previous education experiences include teaching at the high school level and leading as an assistant high school principal, elementary principal, and middle school assistant principal in Indiana. Mr. Babcock is excited to experience his new role with his wife, April, and his children, 17-year-old Garrett, 15-year-old Abigail, and Blair, who is 11 years old.

Ottawa Elementary School Leadership :

Stacey Denison, the principal of Ottawa Elementary School, is starting her fourth year as the leader of this school. Mrs. Denison earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. She earned her Master of Science in Education degree from Indiana University South Bend. Stacey has served Buchanan Community Schools for twenty-three years and worked five years in educational settings before joining Buchanan Community Schools. She taught special education and first grade before being named principal at Moccasin Elementary and then becoming the principal at Ottawa Elementary. Mrs. Dension also has additional district leadership roles. Mrs. Denison shares life with her husband Sean and daughter Sydney.
