During the month of July this summer, Honor Credit Union of Buchanan, MI was able to see upclose on how the organizations of WE CAN RIDE 4-H CLUB and Therapeutic Equestrian Center serve our community. Honor Credit Union dedicates an awareness for each month of the year for their CULTIVATE, PEACE & LOVE campaign. For July, Honor recognized Disability Pride Month. Karol Behrle (CAVP), worked with directors, Autumn Zick of TEC, and Charity Hackett of the 4-H Club to see how they could help them.

First up is the WE CAN RIDE 4-H CLUB. This club was established in 1979, and provides adaptive horseback riding as well as lessons in stable management and showmanship to youth in ages ranging from 5-26 in Berrien County and adjacent counties. Honor employees showed up on a Wednesday evening and surprised 19 summer camp riders with many goodies! Each rider received a full gift bag of Honor swag along with a crisp new $50.00 bill to help offset their camp cost. Also, seven $50.00 Marathon gasoline cards were handed to the horse owners that come each week and trailer them in. In addition, the club received from Honor 20 cases of bottled water and a $150.00 Tractor Supply Company gift card for whatever they needed.

For more information, you can go to their Facebook page We Can Ride 4-H Club.

Last but not least, their last stop was a Saturday morning at the Therapeutic Equestrian Center (TEC). TEC engages the power of horses to challenge people with disabilities to build stronger bodies, minds, and spirits. TEC was formed in 2006 as a nonprofit 501(C )(3) and is open year-round for horse-related activities for young and old. Honor Credit Union surprised TEC with a $500.00 gift card from Mark Farm Supply in Niles to purchase grain for the horses. They were able to watch the students get up on the horses and ride inside the indoor arena. Kent Figy and Karol Behrle presented a $500.00 gift card to students, parents, and volunteers. You can find TEC on their Facebook page: Therapeutic Equestrian Center and their website as well: www.tecfarm.org for more information.

Karol Behrle (CAVP) states, “I could go on and on about how awesome and heartwarming these were. It feels good to give back to organizations like these right here in Buchanan and help bring smiles to these students.”
