Buchanan Scarecrows Brighten Up Downtown Buchanan Once Again
by Editor & Photographer, Rebecka Hoyt
As you make your way into Buchanan, you will be greeted by scarecrows! Buchanan Scarecrow Charities take four days to install them during the last week of August and then take them down on November 1st.
Among the scarecrows, the ladies have added gnomes at the “Welcome to Buchanan” sign at RedBud Trail and Front Street, now known as “Gnome World.” Head west on Front Street and at the corner of Oak & Front Street you will see the dog kennel show in Hargar Park and the Queen has her Korgie. Go across the street to the Buchanan Memorial Garden Club and you will find the “Golden Girls TV show” in the gazebo enjoying some chocolate cake! Up at the post office, the schools are representing the decades.

Not only are the scarecrows on Front Street, but they are on surrounding streets of Oak, Main, and Redbud Trail. You will also notice sunflowers and some blue ribbons on poles to show support for Ukraine.
The money that is raised for Buchanan Scarecrow Charities goes to children organizations and a Buchanan High School senior scholarship. So take a stroll downtown and take photos with them safely. I am sure that you will find our scarecrow! If you do, feel free to email your photo or other scarecrow selfie photos to us at: buchananchronicle@att.net and it may be used in a future issue!

About Buchanan Scarecrow Charities: All during the year, volunteers from the Buchanan, Michigan area have created scarecrows to decorate the downtown business area in the fall (Labor Day thru Halloween). In January of 2013 these volunteers formed a non-profit organization called Buchanan Scarecrow Charities. All profits remain local and benefit the Buchanan area.
