A Blessing in Disguise for Flowers by Anna Second Location

As some of you have heard, the flower and gift shop just on the east side of town when you come into Buchanan, Flowers by Anna, now has a second location which will be opening up very soon at a time to be determined in the near future in Dowagiac, MI. Jen and I recently sat down with Anna Gordon, owner of Flowers by Anna to ask about this new location.
It all started when the plans were put into place to build a “Wedding Floral Shop” just on the south side of their current parking lot. Unfortunately, construction came to an unexpected halt. On the same day, Anna received a postcard in the mail about Booth’s Country Florist in Dowagiac, MI for sale. That day she just left the postcard on her desk, and would see it as a reminder throughout the week. After much consideration as the space in the floral shop is limited and makes it more hectic when weddings happen, she decided to take a chance, buy the shop and turn the Dowagiac location to be more geared towards weddings.
She has been here in Buchanan for six years, but “Want to keep growing, and reach more people. They have more gift shops in Dowagiac, and we do different things here. This was a blessing in disguise.” stated Anna Gordon. She is proud to go into a new community and be the only florist in Dowagiac. Remodeling has been going on to bring new life into the floral shop in the style of the black and white modern design. They will offer some of the same things that are in Buchanan, but not everything. Flowers by Anna – Dowagiac, will still take flower orders and finish them up at the Buchanan location until they fully open up. Also, a “Flower Bar” will be put into place for the summer like they have a “Succulent Bar” in Buchanan, and then a “Dried Flower Bar” in the fall.
A red ribbon cutting ceremony is hoping to be planned just before mid-November and have a Grand Opening downtown Dowagiac at 111 Commercial Street on November 12 at 9am – 3pm. “I am excited for it, and I finally get to have my own downtown storefront window to decorate!” Anna said excitedly. Typical hours of the second location will be the same as her Buchanan location, it’s a 25-minute drive.
