Warm Hearts, Warm Hands at Ottawa 2022
Submitted by Wendie Stephenson of Warm Hearts, Warm Hands
In 2021 a group of women initiated a group called Warm Hearts, Warm Hands with a goal of providing a pair of warm, handmade mittens (that are connected with a cord to help prevent loss) to each child in the Buchanan community school’s preschool program.
Again, this year we crafted mittens and provided them free of charge to each child.
Warm Hearts—Warm Hands was thinking about the giving season when making mittens for the Buchanan’s Preschool program. So many times we see these little ones out for recess who have forgotten their mittens or don’t have any and it is just heart breaking.
The 2nd annual Warm Hearts—Warm Hands program provided every preschool student with a pair of mittens (that have a cord attached to run through the sleeves) that will not get lost!
Buchanan Area Senior Center is the proud sponsor of Warm Hearts, Warm Hands and is grateful to the many seniors in our community who volunteered their time, talents, and materials in making this worthwhile cause a success again this year!
For next year we will be asking for a few hours of time from our friends who are able to crochet and to help create about 100 mittens to be given away. We will provide worsted weight yarn and a needle if needed, and the pattern is available at the BASC. Due to the number of mittens to be made each year, we hope that each person makes at least six pairs to be given away. Please drop mittens off at the BASC. We would also like to acknowledge your time and ask that you let Diana know how many hours you volunteered in helping us out.
If you are interested in volunteering your time to crochet some mittens for the preschoolers contact the Buchanan Area Senior Center for a pattern @ 269-695-7119.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
