Moccasin December Update
Submitted by Moccasin Elementary School Principal Michael Babcock
Emphasis on Writing in the Classroom
Over the past few years, Moccasin teachers have worked extremely hard to develop standard based pacing guides for math and reading. Pacing guides help align grade levels both vertically and horizontally. This year, Moccasin will focus on the integration of writing across all academic areas. On our professional development day, November 11th, Moccasin teachers began the process for developing grade level writing pacing guides. Thank you to Kasey McBeth and Moccasin teachers for getting us off to a great start.

Roller Skating PE lessons
The atmosphere in the gym lately has looked and sounded like a roller skating rink. Students are all smiles as they listen to music and skate around the gym. Bravo to Ms. Leenhouts and all Moccasin students for creating and participating in a positive learning environment.

Teacher Spotlight – Ms. Amiel and Mrs. Staup’s Students Collaborate
We love to see our students working together and we especially love to see 2nd and 4th grade students working on an engineering project. A few weeks ago, students from Ms. Amiel and Mrs. Staup’s classes worked together to build catapults. The project was for students to build a catapult, launch items, and then measure the distance launched.
According to Mrs. Staup, “The 4th graders practiced skills already learned and then used that knowledge to help teach the 2nd graders. The 2nd graders are just beginning their science journeys and maintain stamina and confidence to solve problems. The 4th grade students were excited to help with this process.”
Thank you for the great lesson!!
