Jen Garry, Publisher:
“This was such a fun story to cover, and it is still unfolding! Right away (Nov. 16, 2022) when we saw on Facebook that the old Wheatberry building was going to become Evelyn Mae’s BBQ, we jumped on the story by contacting Anton Lockett to set up an interview. Becka and I were able to meet with him the next evening (Nov. 17) to discuss his plans, and then we were ready to spread the news to the community. Serendipitously, just two days later our next issue (Issue 40 – Nov. 19) was coming out, and when the story broke we had no idea it would become our all-time highest viewed article with 1,391 views. The timing was right and we were the first news group to publish the story, such an exciting feat for our small newspaper! Our team has continued to update the community on the restaurant’s progress and will have a follow-up article out soon, so be on the lookout for that!”

Rebecka Hoyt, Editor & Photographer:
“2022 was the first year I attended two beauty pageants in my entire life. Lillian Waggoner won Miss Buchanan, and then she won Miss Blossomtime! I could not believe it, and I was incredibly excited for her. My first time being at a pageant and covering it for a newspaper for the same person to win both, had me smiling ear – to – ear as I was taking many photos with my Canon camera. And now I plan on attending these pageants as much as I can. They are fun to attend. Enjoy the memory here!”

Jill McDonald, Writer & Photographer:
“Looking back at 2022 with The Buchanan Chronicle, it’s a joy to be part of the team! Editor Rebecka Hoyt and Publisher Jen Garry both lead with dedication and enthusiasm in serving the community. Reflecting upon the articles I’ve written for The Chronicle this past year, two articles stand out when asked to choose my favorite. First is definitely my travel article “Hot Air Balloon Fiesta” where I share my Bucket List experience in Albuquerque, NM. This annual event is amazing to witness! Second is my article “Affordable Fun in Michigan” where I share info on the MI Activity Pass, providing many options throughout Michigan for free and affordable fun. Looking ahead to 2023, I welcome your ideas and suggestions for article topics relating to nature and travel. Feel free to email me your ideas at: jillmcdonaldjkm123@gmail.com or connect with me on Facebook at: facebook.com/naturetravelerjillmcdonald. Cheers to a great new year!

Garrick Stubblefield, Writer:
“My name is Garrick Stubblefield and enjoy writing articles and doing puzzles for the Chronicle. There really is no puzzle that stands out to me simply because each and every one I have put in the Chronicle has come from my head. I have also done a few articles with the Chronicle and the best one was an article about the Can Drive I coordinated for the Vets, from Issue 42. Two years ago I started a can drive for the vets. With the help of local businesses to help collect them, the first year we raised over $700 dollars and we nearly doubled that for this past year. We start it the week of Labor day and run until the week before Thanksgiving. So please, if you want to support this cause, save your cans starting in the summer and I will be more than happy to pick them up. My number is 269 259 0547 to arrange a pickup, if I don’t answer please leave me a message and I will get back to you. Also please donate name brand products only as I can’t accept Aldi, Kroger, Sam’s Club, Costco, etc. Yes it can be cans or bottles, and pop or beer/wine coolers. Thank you for your continued support in our efforts, that we can pass along to our Local Vets.”
