Happy New Year!

Buchanan has a lot to be thankful for this new year. The McCoy Creek Trail extension project will get underway now that the city has been awarded a grant from Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. The nearly $900,000 project will require no funds from the taxpayers, thanks to the efforts of Jerry Flenar and the Friends of the McCoy Creek Trail, Rich Murphy, Wightman, AEP and many others who donated money, time and energy. This is a huge win for the City of Buchanan!
Our Economic Development Director, Rich Murphy, has also recently submitted for a One Million dollar, no match required Spark Grant for St Joseph River Public Access. The funds would be used at the North River Park public access to make much needed repairs to the access road, parking lot and amenities. This is the start of a much larger plan to make the river more accessible to our residents and create a much nicer, more usable space for all.
Thank you to everyone who has worked on these grant opportunities on behalf of the city. Your work is truly appreciated. We look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition.

About The City of Buchanan, MI: The City operates under the Commission–Manager form of government as prescribed by the City Charter. Under this model the City Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the City, with the Buchanan City Commission’s main function being legislative and setting important policies that chart the future course of Buchanan. The City Commission is made up of five (5) members who serve four (4) year terms. The Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem are selected at the first meeting in November following the City election.
