NEW COLLECTIONS COMING SOON
We are excited to announce not one but TWO new collections that will be available soon at the library.
SEED LIBRARY:
The Seed Library will be available in early March for patrons to start “checking out” seeds! A wide variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs, ornamental, and native plants will be available. Take your seeds home and grow them in your garden, then collect seeds from your plants and donate them back to the Seed Library in the fall! Join us for our Seed Library Grand Opening on March 11 (more information below) to learn more about starting plants from seeds, and attend our Seed Saving Seminar with Michigan author Bevin Cohen on September 9 at Fernwood.
MUSIC COLLECTION:
The Library will soon have a CD music collection available for checkout! The Library received a donation of 6,000 CDs from Canton Public Library (near Ann Arbor), as well as shelving (pictured below) to house the collection. We are currently working to process these items and add them to our catalog. We are also accepting donations of gently used or new CDs, and recommendations for what to buy. If there are albums you think we MUST have, let us know by sending Meg an email!

Seed Library Grand Opening
Join us for the official opening of our NEW Seed Library! Enjoy a program on starting seeds with Nate Kesler of Well Watered Farm and make a garden craft to get ready for spring!
Registration requested, on the library’s website or by calling 269.695.3681.

WHAT WE’RE READING:

ERIN IS LISTENING TO…
ONE OF US IS LYING
KAREN M. MCMANUS
Five students go to detention. Only four leave alive. For fans of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, this is the perfect high school thriller.
Yale hopeful Bronwyn has never publicly broken a rule. Sports star Cooper only knows what he’s doing in the baseball diamond. Bad boy Nate is one misstep away from a life of crime. Prom queen Addy is holding together the cracks in her perfect life. And outsider Simon, creator of the notorious gossip app at Bayview High, won’t ever talk about any of them again. He dies 24 hours before he could post their deepest secrets online. Investigators conclude it’s no accident. All of them are suspects.
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you’ll go to protect them.

KAREN IS READING…
THE ALCHEMIST
PAULO COELHO
Combining magic, mysticism, wisdom, and wonder into an inspiring tale of self-discovery, The Alchemist has become a modern classic, selling millions of copies around the world and transforming the lives of countless readers across generations.
Paulo Coelho’s masterpiece tells the mystical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest will lead him to riches far different—and far more satisfying—than he ever imagined. Santiago’s journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life’s path, and, most importantly, following our dreams.

THELMA IS READING…
CAPTIVE
IRIS JOHANSEN
Jane MacGuire is enjoying a period of domestic bliss as she focuses on her art and her partner Seth Caleb uses his unique abilities as an agent for the MI6 intelligence service. But when Seth crosses crime lord Hugh Bohdan, he incurs the wrath of one of the world’s most powerful criminal empires…one whose tentacles reach across the globe and even to the idyllic Scottish retreat where Jane is working. Soon Jane is on the run, struggling to stay one step ahead of Bohdan’s army and his devastating high-tech weaponry. Even with the assistance of Earl John MacDuff, she finds danger at every turn. But with that peril comes an astonishing discovery: a 200-year-old secret on the brink of becoming lost to history.
Jane and Seth must join forces to unlock the fascinating puzzle, even as they hurtle toward a lethal final confrontation in the Highlands. But before their adventure is over, Jane and Seth will encounter their biggest shock of all…and realize nothing can be the same for them ever again.

New Beanstack Challenges!
The library has made new on-going challenges for kids and teens and a seasonal challenge for adults on our Beanstack site to encourage everyone to be a life-long reader!
1000 Books Before Kindergarten: This challenge promotes early literacy skills for children from birth to age six and encourages parent and child bonding through reading. Reading helps build social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, and helps kids do well overall in school. It doesn’t matter if your child is three, or just three months – there’s no better time to start than now! Take that motivation, open one book, and get started. And remember, 1000 is just a number. The goal is to work reading aloud into your regular routine, and let the magic of stories do the rest. This is an ongoing challenge with no end date, and readers can participate in this challenge at the same time as other challenges. Parents, don’t forget to pick up your welcome packet at the library.
500 Books Before Middle School: Kids ages 5-11, are you up to the challenge? Read 500 books before middle school! Log your reading to earn badges along the way. Every 100 books you read earns you a pin-on button! This is an ongoing challenge with no end date, and readers can participate in this challenge at the same time as other challenges.
100 Books Before Graduation: Teens and pre-teens ages 11-19, read 100 books before graduating, log your reading in Beanstack, and earn a new set of badges, as well as a pin-on button at 50 and 100 books! This is an ongoing challenge with no end date, and readers can participate in this challenge at the same time as other challenges.
Genre Challenge 2023: Challenge yourself to read beyond what you can imagine and explore new genres! This challenge runs from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023, and readers can participate in this challenge at the same time as other challenges.
