Mother’s Day Gift Idea: The Salt Haven

by Rebecka Hoyt, Editor & Photographer, and Jen Garry, Publisher

Mother’s Day is approaching fast and you just might want to consider giving a gift of a “Salt Cave Session” at The Salt Haven on the northside corner of W. Ferry and S. Cass streets in Berrien Springs, MI! Jen and I were privileged to have an amazing experience there, owned by Tammy Pressler for the last couple of months. The gift shop is full of beauty and health products by local makers, art by local artists, and the largest variety and inventory of directly imported salt lamps in the area.

The Salt Haven is a great place to relax, unwind in their gravity chairs and have a seat on a 85 degrees lighted bench, a salt air mist, salt lamps, light music and the feeling of being to the ocean for three days as your bare feet or with socks on get to feel the Himalayan salt. You can also join a Yoga class (visit their website or Facebook page for more information). Dry salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, can help with many ailments such as allergies, asthma, colds and flu, psoriasis, eczema and acne.

Tammy also has pamphlets on these conditions for your knowledge. Please note, according to the fine print on the back of the Salt Therapy Association education cards they state, “While there are many clinical and scientific studies conducted on dry salt therapy (halotherapy) throughout the world, the FDA has not evaluated the statements made on this educational card. Dry salt therapy is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Dry salt therapy is not intended to replace any medications or treatments. Any health issues should be treated by a licensed medical professional and any further questions relating to halotherapy should be directed to your physician.” (2018-20 Salt Therapy Association education card).

Before you enter the Salt Cave Tammy explains everything clearly so you know what to expect, and you will be given a water bottle while you enjoy the 45 minute session. There are lockers for you to place your belongings in and you don’t need to bring a lock. Each session and gift certificates start at $45. Want to bring a friend or two or more with you? You can, as you are able to split up the amount between the people in your party.

Before or after your session, you can peruse the “Salty Shop” for unique gifts of “salt” items, essential oils, art made by local artists, and LaVazza Coffee. This is also a great place for you and your significant other to enjoy some downtime. However, you can bring your kids with you but if this is your time to relax, maybe have them spend some time with Dad or Grandma & Grandpa. So, go and enjoy this place and tell them you read the article in The Buchanan Chronicle!

About The Salt Haven: After researching the benefits of Himalayan salt for about a year, we were able to visit our first salt cave. We quickly fell in love with the relaxation it provided as well as easier breathing, and headache relief.  When we seriously considered opening a business of our own, we began taking other people to the salt cave to get their feedback.  Everyone we took had a positive response. Upon finding a location in downtown Berrien Springs, our family and friends worked together to renovate, creating a small retail showroom and salt cave. We chose a cabin theme for our salt cave with the intent of making it feel like a retreat from the stresses of everyday life. Our salt cave includes a halogenerator which disperses pharmaceutical grade salt into the air during the 45 minute salt cave session, offering our customers many additional benefits to a traditional salt cave. Recently the ownership changed hands from retiring creator to long-time customer, and we are thankful to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of people in our community.
