Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce and LiveBuchanan Hosted PERC Breakfast at Roti Roti Art Center
by Rebecka Hoyt, Editor & Photographer
Friday, May 12, 2023 The Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce had their PERC Breakfast at the Roti Roti Art Center of Buchanan for members of the community to hear about LiveBuchanan and their current projects, including Downtown and Days Avenue Improvements, Munchie Mondays Food Truck Events, etc. Union Coffee House provided the breakfast of egg muffins, fruit cups, yogurt parfaits, coffee and tea, which was enjoyed by many as they networked with each other.

Ashley Regal, Main Street Manager/Assistant Director of Community Development presented a slideshow about LiveBuchanan and their plans for events and improvements throughout Downtown Buchanan, which also showed some of their marketing projects and other strategies to benefit Buchanan and entice visitors and business activity. Their mission is “to preserve, improve, and revitalize downtown Buchanan, the core of our community,” (Live Buchanan “What is Main Street?” brochure). Some of her team was also present as they networked with others in their conversations and received ideas for downtown Buchanan. Also, a new sign will soon greet motorists on the corner of US 12 & Redbud Trail as they travel north into Buchanan. The price is quite hefty in the thousands of dollars, so feel free to donate to them to help support this project. You can learn more at their website: www.LiveBuchanan.com/be-involved to volunteer, donate and advocate.

One recurring summer event they’ve initiated is Buchanan’s “Munchie Mondays” in the newly dubbed “Food Truck Alley,” which is the city-owned lot next to Gustavsen Cafe on Days Avenue. From 11:30am – 7:00pm on Mondays May 15 – July 31, come visit a good variety of food trucks throughout the day for lunch and dinner, and enjoy live music in the evening. There’s seating, tables, and new lighting ready for you to spend time in Food Truck Alley, or you can take your food over to Buchanan Common or even home with you. Each week there will be different vendors, so check for who will be there and maybe try something new.

At the end of the breakfast, Kim Pruitt was introduced as the new Executive Director of Roti Roti Art Center of Buchanan, starting next week Tuesday, May 16. She had been doing the accounting for them this past winter and then it was suggested to her to be the director, so as she said, “Buchanan is rockin’ it with the concerts and development! Yes.” She is an artist with an accounting background.
